Adrienne Joy

It is with a heavy heart that I write that on July 24th, 2017, Adrienne passed away.  The family was together and her three wonderful children were all by her side. During this difficult time, it is hard to find the right words. Each person whose life she touched is heartbroken in a different and unique way. She was a kind, generous, ethical, strong woman, mother, sister, grandmother, daughter, aunt, activist, artist and we all already miss her so much.

The letters on this blog were written about, and saved for over 50 years for, my Aunt Adrienne and my dad and it is for them that I write this blog. I thought I would share an excerpt form a letter that Sylvia wrote about Adrienne’s first time seeing the ocean:

Darling, your little daughter still refers to you tenderly as “My fat daddy” – and she’s really adorable and clever and I can’t get over her – all I can do is sit back and admire her. She now wears her hair in curls or like this on hat days. And she looks adorable!! She’s tanned as we were at the beach last week to visit Tante Drashe [Sylvia’s Aunt] and Adrienne loved it! This was the first time she saw the ocean water. She went in at first, but refused to go in again. I didn’t force it on her.
