This blog looks at the nation’s history as filtered through the well-documented relationship between my grandparents. I never knew Sylvia, but she and my grandfather, Alex, wrote hundreds of letters to each other during the years that Alex was stationed abroad during WWII.
Each post examines a letter that helps the story of two people unfold as they navigate their relationship with each other and with the war.
I will also look at the letters in the context of Brooklyn and how it has changed over time. The blog is also a platform to examine different methods of storytelling that are used throughout the letters.

Hi Molly, Thank you for following my blog. I just wanted to let you know that you are the official 100th follower. 🙂 I really enjoy your grandparents’ World War II story. And all the great historical information that you have posted to go along with it.

Hi Deborah,
Thanks so much for you support on my blog! I actually thought I already followed your blog so, while I’m happy to hear I’m your 100th (wow!) subscriber, I meant to do it sooner! I think your blog is beautiful, and it’s what I would like mine to look/feel like so thank you for the inspiration! And for the Versatile Blogger nomination, I had never heard of such a thing but it’s a lovely way to connect bloggers and I really appreciate it! I wish I could devote more time to this work, and build more of a community (I have very few followers) but with graduate school I don’t get to do so much outside research anymore! Thanks again!
Best, Molly
