I still don’t have a computer to put up a new letter but I thought I would tide everyone over with some other Brooklyn reading.
First, a thank you to the blog “ I Love Franklin Ave” for the shout out to this blog (which can be found here). Having lived on Franklin Ave last year, I appreciate the documentation of all the changes and developments going on. Brooklyn is a borough that is deeply in touch with its rich past and also coping with rapid change.
Watch out, according to this NY Times article, Houston could overtake Brooklyn’s position as the 4th largest city (if counted separately from NYC) in the U.S. by 2030. Brooklyn, like the other outer boroughs, has a truly independent identity. Brooklyn and Manhattan are so intensely connected and still so fervently separate.
Walt Whitman put it better in “Crossing Brooklyn Ferry”:
“Cross from shore to shore, countless crowds of passengers!
Stand up, tall masts of Mannahatta!—stand up, beautiful hills of Brooklyn!”
